Blossom Vegetarian Café
209 Gilmour Street, Ottawa, ON K2P 0N9
This is a great little place for a vegetarian lunch in downtown Ottawa. The bowls are my favorite; my daughter loves the burgers. The ginger lemonade is super refreshing and perfect to cool down in the summer. Lots of gluten free options.
This is an excellent choice for a trendy vegetarian meal with lots of gluten free options. We always order the "cauliflower wings" appetizer- it's a family favorite. The bowls and burgers are both great meal choices. They recently added some new desserts, including a devine gluten-free chocolate cake. It's always busy there so if you go, be prepared to wait. They will put your name on a wait list and then text you when your table is ready, so you can wander around outside while you're waiting.
This is a great vegetarian place for lunch. It's a buffet style restaurant where you pay by weight. All ingredients for every dish are displayed on cards beside each dish so it is easy for anyone with allergies to figure out what they can eat. There are lots of gluten free and vegan options. There is usually a nice selection of hot and cold dishes, as well as lots of delicious desserts. They also have some freezer and pantry foods you can buy to take home or you can get take-out from the buffet.
This is a large, hip, boisterous scratch kitchen restaurant in Orleans. The menu changes but is always interesting and it always includes lots of gluten free options with everything from burgers to fancy tacos to pork belly with scallops. There is even gluten-free cider on tap!
Stone Faced Dolly’s
This is a wonderful place for brunch or lunch when you want something a little more special or have something to celebrate. The menu is eclectic and full of interesting options. Most items are gluten free or have a gluten free option but ask the server to guide you through the menu just in case. The service is always friendly and attentive, and the food is fantastic.
La Dolce Vita
This is a cozy Italian restaurant in the heart of Little Italy which is perfect for a family celebration, a gathering of friends, or a special couple’s dinner. They offer a full gluten-free menu including pasta and pizza, and they even have calamari which is prepared in a gluten free fryer. They also offer take-out and delivery.

The Coconut Lagoon is a wonderful South Indian restaurant with plenty of gluten-free options. This restaurant is perfect for family or friends getting together and also makes a special place for a romantic evening out. Reservations are recommended as it is becoming increasingly popular. They have an a la carte menu and also serve a lunch buffet. The staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and will guide you through the plentiful gluten-free options when asked. The food is fantastic and includes a wide variety of meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan dishes and you can ask for your personal level of spice.

The Bowl is my go-to place when I don’t pack my lunch for work. It is completely gluten-free. They only serve one dish but they manage to pack so much flavour into that one dish, it never seems to get old. The dish is basically rice and beans served up with a mix of toppings including olives, salsa, special kiki sauce, toasted chick peas, cilantro, avocado, cheddar and sour cream. You can choose to leave out any ingredients according to your personal taste and they have a variety of hot sauces to add on after. I personally leave out the sour cream and cheddar for a vegan option and squeeze on a good dollop of hot sauce for some zing. There are also vegan brownies, and tortilla chips as sides, as well as a good selection of drinks. Everything is served up in compostable or recyclable containers.
My Favorite Gluten Free Bakery
Strawberry Blonde Bakery
Not only is this bakery completely gluten-free, it is also vegan and dairy, and nut-free too, so it's a great choice for people with multiple food allergies or sensitivities. They make wonderful whole grain bread which can be sliced and stored in the freezer (if there is any left at the end of the day!). It is the only gluten free bread I buy- it has such a wonderful flavor and texture, it has spoiled me against all other loaves! They also make a wide range of cookies, squares, scones, and cakes and you can order specialty items. There is also a "take and bake" freezer with vegan tourtieres, pizzas, scones, etc. In the summer, the ice cream sandwiches are worth the outing. Some of my other personal favorites include the date squares, chocolate mint cookies, and ginger cookies, and of course, the bread! Am I raving a little? Yes! Once I discovered this bakery, I never felt like I was missing out on delicious baked goods.
