Grocery Shopping Tips

  1. Read labels every time. Sometimes suppliers change so something that used to be gluten free no longer is. I’ve been caught out this way a couple of times with nuts. I used to buy large bags at Costco but after noting a return of gluten symptoms, I noticed that the ingredients had changed to “may contain…”. Ugh. Now I check the label every single time.
  2. If you’re not sure, let it be. This is especially true for things like sauces, dressings, etc. Gluten is added to almost all those types of things so unless it is labelled “gluten free”, don’t eat it.
  3. Look for a substitution online. There is so much information out there and there is probably someone who has figured out what works.
  4. Plan ahead for any outings! I can’t stress this tip enough. Always plan your food ahead of time so you don’t get caught without. Keep some quick meals and snacks on hand, or have a list of take-out, delivery or fast foods that you know are OK for you to eat. This is especially important when travelling.
